Introduction to the DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION AND INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS
Fo Guang University was founded by Venerable Master Hsing Yun and the Fo Guang Shan monastic order, which has long been dedicated to the promotion of education and culture. Over the years, the institution has established numerous kindergartens, elementary schools, high schools, and Buddhist colleges. Master Hsing Yun, along with a million Education Development Committee members, worked tirelessly to establish this university. Their vision was to create a “Forest University” guided by the spirit of humanities and rooted in the principles of righteousness, justice, morality, and compassion.
The Department of Public Affairs established its graduate program in 2001, enrolling its first cohort of master's students. In the 2002 academic year, the department began admitting undergraduate students and launched an executive master's program for professionals seeking to further their education.
Over the past decade, under the leadership of successive department heads and faculty members, the department has thrived. It has hosted ten sessions of the "Local Development Strategy Symposium," providing a platform for academic and practical exchanges in the field of public affairs among local government, industry, and academia.
